PAXIL - (Paroxetine, Seroxat)
side effects and withdrawal symptoms
PAXIL is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called Selective Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI’s). PAXIL in particular blocks a group of receptors in the nervous system known as cholinergic receptors, a chemical compound in both the Peripheral Nervous System and the Central Nervous System. The Peripheral Nervous System is associated with the voluntary control of body movements and helps keep the body in touch with its surroundings (touch, hearing and sight), but also acts as the control system that maintains homeostasis in the body. The Central Nervous System represents the brain and spinal cord and has a fundamental role in the control of behavior. Therefore, stopping Paxil rapidly can produce withdrawal symptoms.
Because SSRI’s influence numerous systems of the body and brain, stopping PAXIL abruptly can cause what is termed a discontinuation syndrome. According to Dr. Joseph Glenmullen, 66% of PAXIL users will experience withdrawal symptoms. Therefore, gradual dose reduction (also known as tapering), combined with specific nutritional support is recommended to help the body and brain during the withdrawal.
The POINT OF RETURN Withdrawal Program was specifically developed to address the extensive depletion issues caused by PAXIL, while also providing support to the body and brain during the withdrawal process.
