MIRTAZON is an antidepressant that is considered a tetracyclic antidepressant, and increases the release of both Norepinephrine (Noradrenaline) and Serotonin. Norepinephrine increases blood pressure, affects parts of the brain where attention and action is controlled. Along with Epinephrine, Norepinephrine creates the fight-or-flight response that increases heart rate and triggers the release of glucose while increasing blood flow to the skeletal muscle. Serotonin influences the cardiovascular, renal, immune and gastrointestinal systems, and is essential to regulate body temperature, heart rate, blood pressure and the sympathetic nervous system.

Side Effects of drowsiness and weight gain can be prominent with MIRTAZON . Due to the sedative effects of MIRTAZON , excessive sedation may result when it is combined with tranquilizers, benzodiazepines or sleeping pills.

Because MIRTAZON influences numerous systems of the body and brain, stopping abruptly can cause what is termed a discontinuation syndrome. Gradual dose reduction (also known as tapering), combined with specific nutritional support is recommended to help the body and brain during the withdrawal.
