BUSPIRONE -(Ansial, Ansiced, Anxiron, Axoren, Bespar, Buspimen, BuSpar, Buspinol, Buspisal, Narol, Spitomin, Sorbon)
side effects and withdrawal symptoms
BUSPIRONE is an anti-anxiety agent that is not chemically or pharmacologically related to benzodiazepines, barbiturates or sedative drugs, but rather activates Serotonin and acts on Dopamine receptors. BUSPIRONE belongs to the azaspirodecanedione class of compounds and has been promoted as non-sedative, non-addictive and relatively safe.
According to Dr. Peter Breggin, like all minor tranquilizers, BUSPIRONE is habit forming, addictive and can cause life-threatening neurological reactions. The side effects are similar to benzodiazepines and abrupt withdrawal can cause the same rebound insomnia, depression, anxiety, headaches and nausea.
All tranquilizers alter the sleep architecture in the same way that benzodiazepines do - by reducing the amounts of restorative Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep and increasing the non-restorative sleep patterns. This can result in daytime drowsiness and poor cognitive function. Therefore only short-term use of BUSPIRONE is recommended and discontinuation should be with a gradual dose reduction.
BUSPIRONE like all drugs depletes the body of essential vitamins, minerals as well as Glutathione (the body’s master antioxidant). Glutathione is essential for a healthy immune system and the detoxification process. Low Glutathione levels are associated with immune and liver dysfunction, cardiac disease and premature aging.
This may explain why prolonged use of benzodiazepines can severely compromise our health. Dr. Jimmy Gutman describes Glutathione as “Food for the Immune System.” Replenishing the body of critical Glutathione levels not only helps to improve immune function, but also allows the body to detoxify naturally.
The POINT OF RETURN Withdrawal Program was specifically developed to address the extensive depletion caused by BUSPIRONE, while also providing support to the body and brain during the withdrawal process. POINT OF RETURN is a sane, sensible and safe approach to prescription drug withdrawal.
